Our Analysis & Ratings

The Advanced Elements AdvancedFrame Convertible Elite is a fast kayak for coastal or flatwater, either solo or with a passenger. It offers fantastic paddling performance for passengers and it has all the necessary features needed to give the kayak strength and performance — it just comes with a bit longer setup time.

Performance - The directional fin allows for stability on the water and for an enjoyable paddling experience, even through rough waters. The built-in aluminium ribs add durability to the bow and stern for great tracking.

Construction - The Elite model of the AdvancedFrame Convertible has a drop-stitch floor for increased rigidity and better tracking and glide. There are small air tubes at the front and rear of the cockpit to inflate to ensure the cockpit doesn’t sag — you do need to ensure you set up and inflate the kayak by the book to get the peak performance out of it.

Setup/Pack down - While the setup process of the AdvancedFrame Convertible is well-planned and instructed, it takes about 15 minutes to assemble due to the many valves and accessories inserted. The hull fabric takes a while to dry, and it's a bit tricky to fit everything back into the bag.

Portability - This Advanced Elements inflatable kayak is quite heavy, especially with the included features and accessories like the extra paddle holders, pump adaptor and cockpit enclosure, so it’s not a great kayak to take while hiking. The backpack function is almost useless as the metal carabiners press painfully into your shoulders.

Comfort - The high, adjustable seats have great lumbar support, meaning you’re sitting firmly without bending, like what happens in some other kayaks, and so you’re comfortable while paddling. It also has spray covers at the bow and stern that keep you dry when hit by waves.

Overall - This kayak is well-thought-out and equipped with features for strength and performance.
