The Kampa Sandy High Back Folding Beach Chair is an excellent option for those who are just after a cheap, basic chair. Unlike some of the other basic chairs we reviewed, this little guy is extremely well-made for the price. We were impressed with its stability, weight and overall quality, even if it does lack some of the features of other chairs.
Construction and Design - The seat fabric's a strong 600 denier polyester, fairly standard for a better-constructed beach chair. We liked the strength offered by the steel frame, and found the chair to sit very sturdily on the ground when folded out. In terms of design, there are absolutely no bells and whistles - it's simply a low chair. We would've loved a pocket or two to store things in, but it wasn't a dealbreaker for us.
Setup/ Packdown - As with beach chairs of this design, it was an easy open by simply pulling the ends of the chair apart. We found the open and close actions to be smooth, indicative of the quility construction of this chair.
Portability - The chair packs down into a nice small tube and at 3kg is nicely portable. We found the supplied carry bag to be nowhere near the same quality of the chair - its much lighter fabric could tear more easily.
Comfort - We liked the relatively high back of this chair and found its low height off the ground to be comfortable for stretching out our legs. The armrests were at an ideal height for us and the foam padding around them, while solid, was not unpleasant to rest on.
Durability - For a chair of this price, given its quality construction we'd say this chair is extremely durable. Over the duration of our testing period the chair performed the same as when we'd first bought it.
Summary - We love the Kampa beach chair as a well-priced and well-made simple option. Would we have liked pockets? Sure. But for a chair that you'd happily take to the beach, to festivals, to picnics or wherever else you need to sit in comfort, look no further.
