Our Analysis & Ratings

We were pleased with the comfort and warmth of the Kelty Cosmic Ultra 20F. It's at the nexus of quality construction, not too heavy, comfortable to sleep in and with a reasonable price point. We would've loved to see a bit more thought around the pack down so it fit more easily in a hiking pack, but on the whole we enjoyed our experience with this bag.

Comfort - We found the down-polyester mix fill to be well distributed to maintain warmth and loft. Though it is a mummy shape, there's a slightly wider footbox than some mummies so there was room to move around when sleeping.

Construction - Kelty's proprietary DriDown fill emplys a hydrophobic treatment for the down, which did make the bag stay drier than some others. We also liked the draft tube around the zipper, and found the zipper worked very smoothly. A well-made bag.

Features - We liked that there was an internal pocket, and support for the zip so it didn't get caught. We would've liked to see a more appropriately sized stuff sack - the larger sack made it easy to pack the bag up, but then there was less opportunity to really reduce the size of the bag in your pack.

Size/Weight - It's about middle of the road in terms of weight, but slightly larger - however, for the warmth, the size/weight of the bag is very reasonable.

Versatility - We think this bag would be a great one to have anywhere, due to its warmth and its reasonable weight.

Overall - The Kelty Cosmic 20 Degree sleeping bag is a really good combination of comfort, quality construction and reasonable weight, and at a better price point than some similar offerings.
