The Razor Kayaks Edge Pro is a hard shell foldable kayak that doesn't require inflation. We loved how it glided through the water with speed and felt silky-smooth to paddle. The setup process takes a couple of goes to master but once you’ve practiced it, it’s easy to fold/unfold. It was the fastest overall kayak in our testing and we liked the ability to fully enclose the deck. This is a great choice for anyone looking for something really close to a hard shell.

Performance - The sharp points of the bow and stern along with the hard-shell surface mean it travels very fast along the water. The handling is excellent and it’s really easy to manoeuvre.

Construction - The Edge Pro takes a clever design and clearly applies a quality construction process. Deck strips create the sense of a properly enclosed kayak, while the key joins and structure are reinforced/tensioned with aluminium for a really solid feel. However - after repeated uses the folds and deck strips do loosen up, and the kayak loses some of its durability, so there’s definitely a more marked deterioration in the construction over time than with other kayaks we tested due to the nature of the materials.

Setup/Pack down - Being a foldable kayak, there’s obviously no pumping required, but there’s definitely a learning curve the first time you try to set it up! Luckily we found the included instructions easy to follow and now we’re able to set it up and pack it down relatively quickly. The hard plastic outer means it dries off quickly - just fold and go.

Portability - This is a little bulkier than some of the best inflatable kayaks we reviewed, but as it comes with a good quality backpack we didn’t find that impacted our experience of carrying it. At 14.9kg, it’s a very reasonable weight for something that feels like a hard shell.

Comfort - For a fully enclosed kayak, it doesn’t feel at all claustrophobic - there’s plenty of room above your legs, and the white, translucent thermoplastic makes it feel light and airy. The seat is comfortable and there’s good hard surface to paddle against. One small gripe was the footrest wobbling around a little on its elastic.

Overall - Such a pleasure to paddle and very well made - just bear with the setup process until you get the hang of it.
