Our Analysis & Ratings
The Robens Green Cone is a four-person tipi-style tent that stands out for its clever design and robust construction. It gives campers a spacious interior, excellent weather resistance and a unique offset centre pole that maximises usable space. Great for motorbike tours, car camping and small group trips, this tent has been tested in heavy rain and strong winds, proving itself as a reliable shelter. It does come with a learning curve for pitching, though, and has some minor quality issues. If you're looking for a sturdy, well-ventilated tent that can handle rough conditions, the Green Cone is a strong contender, but it’s not without its quirks.
Comfort - Inside the Green Cone, you’ll find plenty of headroom, allowing most campers to stand up comfortably. The angled centre pole creates more usable space than traditional tipis, making it a great choice for two to three people plus gear. Four adults can fit, but it would be a tight squeeze, especially with air beds or bulky equipment. Ventilation is excellent, with mesh panels, ground-level vents and a large door helping to reduce condensation. The inner tent has short corner poles that lift the walls slightly, giving extra storage space along the edges, which is a nice touch that sets it apart from other teepee designs.
Construction - Built with durability in mind, the Green Cone has a 75D polyester flysheet (5000mm hydrostatic head) and taped seams, giving it solid waterproofing. The anodised aluminium centre pole is thick and sturdy, designed to withstand strong winds when properly tensioned. It can have some quality control issues, though, such as frayed guy lines, missing pegs, or loose toggles — small annoyances at this price point. The included pegs are also on the flimsy side, so we’d recommend upgrading to sturdier Y-shaped stakes for better grip in tough conditions.
Features - One of the tent’s standout features is its large porch area, perfect for storing gear, cooking, or just relaxing (though it doesn’t provide full rain protection). The double-zippered door allows for partial opening, letting you check the weather before stepping outside. Inside, mesh pockets and a central hanging loop add convenience, while the bathtub-style groundsheet (10,000mm waterproofing) keeps moisture out. The tent can also be pitched without the inner for a lighter setup in fair weather.
Size/Weight - Weighing 5.5–6kg and packing down to 67x23cm, the Green Cone is manageable for motorbike or car camping but a bit bulky for backpacking. It fits easily in a 90L roll bag alongside other gear, making it a practical choice for longer trips. While not ultralight, the weight is reasonable for a tent of this size and durability.
Versatility - This tent shines in windy and wet conditions, unlike some others we’ve reviewed, thanks to its steep walls and stable frame. It’s best suited for spring, summer and autumn camping, though proper pitching is key to maintaining its weather resistance. The ability to adjust the pole height (lower in storms, higher in good weather) adds flexibility, too. While it’s marketed as a four-person tent, it’s most comfortable for two adults plus gear or three people without much extra equipment.
Overall - The Robens Green Cone is a well-designed, durable tent that excels in ventilation, space and weather resistance. Its unique offset pole gives it more interior room, and its high-quality materials ensure long-term use. Just note that the pitching process has a learning curve and the included pegs and guy lines could be better. If you’re willing to practice setup and maybe upgrade a few components, this tent offers great value for its price. It’s not perfect, but for campers who are looking fore stability and comfort over ultralight portability, the Green Cone is a solid choice.
