Our Analysis & Ratings
The Valandre Bloody Mary is a lightweight sleeping bag that keeps you warm and comfortable year-round. While it costs more than many others, it does what it claims to: it stays warm, packs down small, weighs very little and handles different weather really well.
Comfort - The materials and insulation work together to keep you warm even in freezing conditions, with no chilly spots inside. It doesn’t trap too much heat or feel sweaty either. Its snug mummy shape can feel a bit tight, especially if you’re on the bigger side, so going for the larger size might be a better call. The outer shell dries fast if it gets a little wet from condensation and doesn’t soak through.
Construction - Filled with high-quality 800 fill French grey goose down, the insulation feels warm and reliable. The bag uses nylon for both the outer layer and the inside, and it has a thick draft tube behind the zipper to block cold air. The mummy cut helps hold in warmth, but the tallest person on our team found the toe box a little narrow.
Features - This sleeping bag has two toggles on the hood that can be clipped together to tighten it with one hand. It comes with a swappable draft collar that adds extra warmth when needed. The zipper runs the full length of the bag and slides easily and the pulls are big enough to grab with gloves. One downside is the lack of a waterproof flap over the zipper, which some other bags at this price do include.
Size/Weight - Weighing just 1.18kg, it’s easy to carry in warmer months but warm enough for serious cold. It compresses down to around 19x22cm, though the storage sack is tight and getting it packed away can be a bit of a struggle.
Versatility - The Bloody Mary stands out as a multi-season bag thanks to the removable collar. You can skip it on warm nights, go for the midweight collar when it’s cooler or add the full collar for freezing weather. It’s rated for temperatures down to -15°C, so it covers a wide range.
Overall - The Valandre Bloody Mary is a great all-season sleeping bag that performs well, although it sits on the pricey side.
