From our experience, it largely delivers on its promise of being a sturdy, stable and user-friendly craft, though it comes with a few quirks in its accessories and setup that are important to note for potential buyers.

Speed: It moves through the water with good efficiency for an inflatable, thanks to effective hull shaping and fins.

Tracking: The Wave Roamer does well in tracking, handling predictably as it moves through the water.

Manoeuvrability: The included paddle feels a bit short for best leverage on such a wide boat.

Stability: The solid drop-stitch floor, when inflated to its recommended high PSI, provides a solid platform that makes the kayak feel remarkably steady, even in choppy coastal conditions or on reservoirs. Its wide design, while great for stability, means it can be susceptible to wind and may require more effort to paddle in adverse conditions.

Load Handling: While it can accommodate three people, it's most comfortable for two adults and some gear.

Construction (materials, seams, valve quality, durability and fittings): 4/10

The kayak is built from tough, UV-resistant PU-stitch material that feels durable and inspires confidence against abrasions or bumps against rocky shores long-term. The high-pressure drop-stitch floor is the standout feature, achieving a near-rigid hardness that transforms the on-water experience.

The seams and overall build feel durable, however, there can be some minor issues, like a plastic clip on a footrest breaking or slight peeling at seam corners, though we have noticed that the manufacturer's customer service is quite responsive and quick to resolve such problems.

Setup/Pack Down (inflation time, valves, folding and drying): 7/10

Setup is generally straightforward, taking between 10 and 20 minutes. The multiple Boston valves are easy to use, though the included instruction leaflet could be clearer, particularly on how to correctly set the valves to the inflation mode to prevent air from escaping when disconnecting the pump.

A significant drawback we noticed is that the supplied pump often cannot reach the kayak's recommended high PSI, around 15 for the floor, meaning you'll need a more powerful aftermarket pump for optimal rigidity. Packing down is simple, and the kayak fits well into the provided backpack with compression straps, though you may want to forget trying to fit every single accessory inside.

Portability (weight, packed size, ease of carrying): 6/10

Weighing 16kg, it is manageable to carry in its backpack for short distances, making it perfect for accessing more remote launch spots on foot. It packs down compactly enough to fit easily into the boot of a small car, meaning you won't need a roof rack.

The included padded carry handles on the kayak itself also make it easy to transport when inflated, from the car to the water's edge.

Comfort (seat support, legroom, fatigue over distance): 5/10

The cockpit is spacious, offering plenty of room for two adults and gear, or even two adults and a small child or dog. The seats are also better than those typically included with kayaks, offering decent support for shorter trips.

Just know that taller adults may find the legroom and seating position less than ideal for extended journeys. The main comfort issue is with the paddle: the rubber stoppers on the ends are ineffective, causing water to drip down the shaft and onto the paddler with each stroke, which can become annoying.
