If you’re looking for a camping chair to throw in the back of your car or to take with you on a long-haul motorcycle trip, the Helinox Chair One is a good choice. For its compact size, it’s quite stable and very durable and, importantly, comfortable. It’s on the higher end in terms of price, but if you need to conserve space, it’s a top contender.
Comfort - It has a well-ventilated mesh backing as well as great lower back support. Its seat is medium-high in height and while it’s not the highest we’ve reviewed, it’s still easy for taller individuals to get in and out of. It just lacks neck support as it’s a smaller chair than most. Smaller people may feel as though their shoulders are cramped. If you’re comparing it with the comfort of a traditional camping chair, it misses out.
Construction - The Helinox Chair One is stable and durable for a compact chair, although not as much as larger chairs. Its frame is made of anodised aluminium rods connected with an internal bungee, which makes setting up easy. The pole joints under the seat are made of plastic, though, which may not last. Its fabric is 600D polyester.
Features - The setup instructions are printed on the inside of the storage bag, which is handy. It doesn’t have any additional support on its feet that could help it on soft surfaces, so it may sink. These come at an additional cost.
Size/Weight - It’s very light at 960g, which is great, not just because it’s incredibly light, but also because it has a maximum load of 145kg. It packs down into a zippered pouch.
Versatility - The Helinox Chair One is incredibly portable while still being comfortable. It’s great for camping, beach trips and picnics, although may not be the best for ultralight backpacking.
Overall - A simple, comfortable and very portable camping chair, the Helinox Chair One suits any camping trip.
